Default potential bronco buy

my dads friend is selling a 1993 ford bronco. i just looked at it today and its in decent shape. it was locked and blocked in but it said 5.8 on the window.

its an eddie baur edition so its fully loaded. really not alot of rust on it especially for a new england truck... got less than my car (lol sad). the drivers door panel was apart but all there (power controls hanging by wires).

says $2200 on the window i could prob get it for $1400.

is the 5.8 reliable or could this be a money pit? i drive about 50 miles a day to work and back. i assume it gets probably 10 mpg or worse.

let me know if u guys have owned one and what you thought, thanks.

what kills the bronco's of that vintage is rust from the inside out starting up on the radiator core support frame mount area.....also the brake lines were prone to severe rust

Watch out if you have to change the water pump. The bolts like to rust to the block. Also the rear quarter panels will rust on you from the inside out and outside in. It can be fixed of course but it's tedious.
They are reliable and get about 14mpg stock, 26mpg max modded. And the gas tank is 36gallons, so watch the pump or you'll be in trouble.
The passenger side of the dash likes to crack and start bouncing around(they had a recall on all F150,250,350, ect on it), but an "L" bracket will solve it.
Hope that helps.

That truck was not particularly known for reliability when it was new. It's going to be a money pit 15 years later.

If you buy it, plan on lots of little things failing. Don't spend money fixing them.
