I see people still do it but it is to cool things off between runs. Everyone I know keeps the belt they have on which in reality is a short belt bc no one has the smog pump on. I would take out the spare and everything else you have in the car that isn't needed at the track. The only thing in the back of my car is the interior panels....not even any carpet or sound deadening.....but that is bc the old stuff is ruined and I havn't put anything back in yet lol.
You might want to swap the ball sack to the other side though and try dragging them on the launch.

icing only really is necessary in the summer when temps are hot outside

I see alot of people starting to use those cool wraps or some sort around the intake and what not at the track. When I was up and Anderson Motorsports I seen theirs and talked to them about it and they gave me a information pamphlet on it. I think you can check them out on their site.

I have seen dyno info on Anderson motorsports intake wraps. They were good for like an extra 10 ponies I think and dropped intake temps down a good deal. Almost worth it. You could always try putting exhaust wrap on the intake tube and see if you notice a difference. It does the same thing at keeping the heat soak away.

OOOO and you should get some brass ones to hang off the bumper and call your car sparky! lol
