Need help asap !
Alright, just went to start the car in the garage.
turn the key get it started and all is good, rev it a little when I notice it doing what it had before. Making odd noise from motor and tach was going nuts.
I shut it off immediately. But thats the issue, I turn off the power and the starter is still cranking.
So I try all kinds of stuff with the ignition and say screw this I gotta stop the starter, so in a panic driven craze I pop the hood, rip whatever I could get my hands on off the starter solenoid ( only 1 wire) and it was still going, ran to the tool box grabbed some wrenches and ran back to disconnect the battery, by the time all this was over the battery must have been getting tired and it was cranking much weaker.
Thoughts ?

My first thought would be a bad ignition switch. Then as it held the solenoid engauged the excess heat in the soleniod caused it stick in the closed position. By the time you yanked the wire the contacts were welded together. Just a thought
Thanks, I'm looking for any/all input. We replaced that solenoid when we redid the car too, so really that thing hasn't even been on the car for a year yet. Barley used.... I pulled that wire off the solenoid and when it was still going I was like oh wtf...
i recently had the same problem...mine turned out to be a bad starter solenoid, then i installed a new one and the problem was still there(starter cranking). So I then connected battery cable and as the starter began cranking I tapped the solenoid w/ a wrench and the starter stopped cranking...this meant that the new solenoid I installed was defective. I then purchased a higher quality solenoid and problem was solved. You cant test for volts on the small boot wire on the solenoid, if it doesn't show any reading its your solenoid.

Yea, camaroeater, smacked it with a screwdriver and it fixed it but I'm sure it will do it again, maybe we should invest in a high quality solenoid. It's bad when your motor is sitting there turning over and you're watching it turn over and can't stop it.
i heard alot of people saying they had to buy up to 3 solenoids till they got a good one. The first one I got was a $12 durlast, i then got the $20 durlast gold. If i was patient enough i would of spent $40 on the ford solenoid. Yea, that noise is horrible, hearing the flywheel grind. There is no problem I have encountered yet that pissed me off more...mine happened the day after a intake swap. I thought the motor was gone...lol.
