Mini spool on street
#2
I wouldn't run a mini spool on any of my cars, but do what you can afford to do. They have a tendency to break alot of times, sending your car to a hard left or right, most of the time into the concrete barrier walls or into traffic.

my friend had one in his car and one day at the bank the wheel fell off making a turn, all the lug nuts had worked themselves loose, after monitoring it closely the lug nuts would keep doing such during normal street driving, so i'D not reccommend it for a DD

how hard would that be? when you pull the trac lok out of the housing do you have to reset the bcaklash? i ask this cause im getting the gears put in this week, and was wondering if i could then pull the trac loc after it gets bad enough and get it rebuilt. its good now just trying to get more info on this

A mini spool is not that street friendly. When you go around a turn your tires will squeal. When try to park you will have to back up and pull up alot to get in a tight spot. I saw were a guy on another forum put a spool in his car It had some wide slicks. He took it out for a test drive and he came into a turn. He had to make a 3 point turn and it was nto a real sharp turn. If you want a good diff go with a Detroit locker. The factory traction locks are okay til you make some serious power then you will spin one wheel.

I run a mini spool in my Fairlane. Do I daily drive it no, but I did at one time. It has been cross country and has about 5000 miles on it. The tires do chirp when turning, I have pulled the axles when I changed gears and the axles are twisted some. I wish I would have put a trac-loc in it but I did it years ago and it was $30, probably won't change it until it breaks. If you have a trac-loc rebuild it, it's cheap. Just my .02

Get the track lock rebuilt. I mini spooled my rear end, and that lasted all of 2 days . Too much scrubbing in the corners (I mainly drive in town, lots of turning ). Track lock will last a good 3 summers of given'er at the track. If you feel like you need something stronger, the make carbon ones (I think our MOD PRO50SC uses them). If you're getting gears put in at a shop just give them the new track lock kit, and let them re-install the whole thing. It's only an extra $50 or so for the kit. Good luck on the choice, let us know how she goes.
