clunk

Default clunk

well went to drive the car today and only got about half a block. The car started making a loud clunking noise that i could feel aswell. Im thinking maybe U-Joints anyone else have any ideas? thanks

if it's rotational it could be u-joints or something in the drums or axle bearings, without hearing noise and where it originates from, who knows??...you are the eyes and ears

well it seems to be vibrating the shifter i jacked up every tire and checked them out just ran out of time to lift the whole rear-end up

make sure motor mounts and tranny mounts are fine but more so make sure exhaust is good and secure and not rubbing on or clunking on the body anywhere

i did grab and try to shake the exhaust and it seemed pretty sturdy...as for the motor mounts it only clunks when im moving could it still be them?

I doubt it..if it were under load and clunked I was thinking the motor may be jumping due to a broken mount, sounds like something else....where is the source of the noise exactly coming from???

Was it a fast clunk clunk clunk or a every once in awhile? did it vary with speed? what? just saying you heard a clunking noise can mean alot.

it feels like its definitely coming from the drivetrain and does speed up as the car does

Well after giving a few rides i think i have it narrowed down to the rear end. I wont be able to look at it for awhile dont have a garage/tools where i got to school. But if i need to get new gears should i stick with the 4:10's or got to 3:73's?

I doubt it's the gears. Grab the drive shaft and try to spin it by hand. See if theres slop in the U joints.
