Default Loosing coolant

I have noticed the level in my rad is low down 3 inches at least. It does not leak any coolant what so ever and my heat works fine. Also there is no coolant in the crankcase either. It does run rough when its up to operating temp i don't know if that could be related. What do you guys think it could be?

Edit: Can a mod move this to tech please

It runs at a good temp. I have never had it get hot on me.

It runs good when driving and stuff but is pretty rough at idle. The rpms are inconsistent not like an idle surge just shaky. It idles much better and smoother when it is cold.

The exhaust is white most of the time since it is always below freezing here still so I would write that off as condensation.

Also the pass carpet is not wet and there is no smell of coolant in the car or a fogged windshield or anything that would lead me to suspect a heater core.

this one can be tricky. look on the top of the water pump, there is a little area on the drivers side that can collect coolent. if there is a puddle there, then you're timing cover is leaking. Its not actually all that bad of a job. i had a little thread about it here. https://mustangforums.com/forum/5-0-...ling-leak.html

I had an 88 towncar with a 5.0 that leaked in the exact same spot.

I haven't seen anything there. If my car was leaking coolant i would most likely notice it i would think. I will check though.

problem is, they leak when they are hot. it evaporates and never leaves a puddle! mine used coolant forever before i found it, but never actually left a puddle.
