What to do, what to do? My heads arent selling.
Well, it seems as if no one wants to buy my AFR 165s. I've had them on Ebay, craigslist, here, and hardcore50. I only want $1050 shipped for them. Here is my dillema.....
The whole reason that i am selling them is bc my cam grinder suggested that I seriously get rid of the pedestal mounts and get a stud mount head, whether I machine my heads for studs, or I sell them and get new ones. I've already put $600 into machine work and I cant really justify spending another $250 on a set of heads that I'm eventually going to grow out of. I would prefer to sell them and get some Twisted Wedges so i can port them later down the road. Im shooting for high 10s on a 302 with a 150 shot. I have ALOT of stuff into this project, so dont tell me its not going to happen! I know it will.
Do I keep trying to sell them, or do I keep them and convert to stud mount. If I convert, I'll have to have the rocker stud boss milled down, and then drilled and tapped for a 7/16th stud.

Times are just hard all over my man. Lots of folks are holding on to what money they have. I know of 10 folks around my house drawing unemployment right now. If you can't sell them, there is only two options. Have the machine work done to them to make them stud mount or lower the price. I have a machinist friend of mine in DeRidder. I can ask him if he can do the job and for how much tomorrow. He is the guy @ NAPA, his name is Raymond Toothman. Good guy, will direct you in the right way if he doesn't want to do them or can't do them. Give NAPA a call in the morning if you want 337 - 463 - 5525. Ask for Raymond and tell him Big Chris asked for you to call him.
Not only is it because of the economy but it's harder to sell a set of modified heads than a set of untouched heads. Hard to sell a set of used modified AFR 165's when new sets of 210cc ProComps are going for 600 dollars. That imported stuff hits home everywhere especially for those of us that do head work for a living. We both know you have a better built head. Most people don't. All the magazine articles are making ProComp heads look like the second coming. Most magazines are doning budget builds in this economy. People lap up the information in those articles like it's the gospel. Those hacks at MM&FF, 5.0 and SF push peak hp numbers like crack on a Chicago street corner. They should be lined up and whipped with Chevy speedomter cables

didnt u say these heads were messed up from the machine shop?
either way $1000 for used afr's is a bit high
theres a local guy selling brand new gt40x, ecam, 1.7 rockers, etc.. for $900
just my 2 cents

Messed up? WTF are you talking about?
GT40x < AFRs
AFRs are on a whole other level buddy. $1000 is not too much for a set of used AFRs.
Look at the pics of them...
They look basically new, minus the paint on them, but that comes off very easily. In fact, Im taking it off before they get shipped off and I've also got a new set of valve seals in the mail so I can assemble the heads vorfore I sell them.

Not everybody has the extra $480 to fork over. And if I did, I'd buy the used heads that have been properly worked over, and use the extra $480 to buy rockers and a few other extras.
