Talking Back from the Track

Well, it was North Texas Chevelle club and LS1 club at our local 1/8th mile today and I decided to do a couple of runs to see if my times would improve from the last time I was there. My previous best was a 7.90@91 So here they are.

1st run:
60 ft.......... 1.8620
330ft.......... 4.9080
1/8th.......... 7.6537
.......... 87.99

The track was well prepped and the temps were in the mid 70's, so the weather was decent. I left the car in auto, launched the car at 2200rpm and the car just took off. My Nitto Drags are completely bare. I can now see the tread line right in the middle of the tire. But suprisingly they hooked really well(2nd best I've ever had). My trap speed is very low, but for some reason, the car would not shift out of 3rd gear. It went to 6500rpm(ouch!!) before I let off, then got back on the throttle and it finally shifted.

2nd run:
60 ft.......... 1.8488
330ft.......... 4.8386
1/8th.......... 7.5706
.......... 90.76
Did the same routine as above, but again, the car would not shift out of 3rd. There's a few 10ths left on the table because of the prolonged shift. I am going to have to go over the shift tables on the Tweecer and see what the problem is(my previous best trap was 93mph however). Overall, I am very pleased with how the car ran. It launched like a rocket and I can now say that the car is finally an 11 second car. I should also note that I am running the stock suspension other than the car being lowered 2 inches. So I guess it's not to shabby for a "Stock" looking car.

what gear you got in that thing that it is gone into 4th in the 1/8 mile? I would not be gone into OD gone down the track. how hard are you spinning the engine? you know the AOD were designed to not shift into OD with the gas wide open due to reliability issues. Nice runs though.

I am running through 4.10 gears. As for the transmission, it's not an AOD, but an AODE built w/4r70w internals. I bought it from a guy a couple years back as a backup transmission for my stock AODE when it would go(which it did right after the Vortech). The guy said he ran 11.7's on it, and I believe him. I am not sure what else it has done to it, but it's holding up nicely*knock on wood*. For $400 with a PI stall, it wasn't a bad deal if you ask me. As for spinning the motor, I only went to 6000rpm. The first two gears slammed properly at 6000rpm, but third into OD wouldn't shift due to my tune setting I forgot to change(7000rpm was what the Tweecer had it set at. I am glad I backed out of it early or I would have had a blown motor and trans.)

other than the claimed shifting hang up i see more than a couple tenths..

drop that 1.86 60ft to a 1.6 or a 1.5 60ft you can bet 7.10-7.20's are in the books

Yeah, that would be great to hit a low 7. What my car really needs is some slicks or M/T ET Streets. But then again, I'd risk blowing out the rear. But a 7.5 will keep me satisfied for a while. Considering I ran a 10.3 stock, 7.5 is much better. LOL!
