Overheating

The cars got thise little overheating/warm thing going on. When i built the motor i installed a new napa water pump, 180* termostat and switch my sn-95 fan for the taurus fan.

Now if i cruise and take it easy say at 50 mph cruise speed everthings fine, but if i go do a few pulls and but my cruise speed up to 70 or so the temp climbs up to about 200, then if i really get to romping on it it goes to 210*. SO i pull over and let it idle and it cools down. Im figuring i have a few air pockets, and was wondering what the best way to make sure you have all the air out of the system?

Run it and get it warm, after it over heats like that turn it off, pop you hood and unplug your thermostat sensor which is on your lower intake. I think it's a 17 mm wrench you'll need but anyhow. Slowly crack open your thermostat plug just a li'l bit, let some air out then after a while keep opening it up a li'l at a time till eventually you have it totally unplugged at which point you should have let a substantial amount of air out.. which also means you can put some more coolant in the engine. Might be able to do this process more then once depending on how much air is in there. Good luck, let us know how you make out!

thanks cch, i have the auto meter temp gauge so mines 19mm, but ill go do that now

No problem, hope it works out for ya!

get a new radiator.. just kidding

20* shouldn't be much of a concern really ..add the texas weather...what about gauge variance between actual thermostat opening temp vs intake temp?

you might have air in the system...but what got me is what you said about stopping and it cooled down vs driving or getting on it and it climbs.

too much timing under hard loads?
under drives?<i only use the crank..toss the rest in the garbage.
inadiquate cfm on the electric fan?<i ran two 1600's

just some idea's and personal experiences

running lean will cause it to get hot real fast

grabbem88 04-29-2009 10:02 PM

i thought i added that?? oh well oversite on my part, but yes lean condition will heat the cylinders and block

84conversion50 04-29-2009 10:05 PM

since when is 200 and 210 hot?

grabbem88 04-29-2009 10:13 PM

it's not...if want's things to check i gave him something to do..that way maybe his conscious would be at ease.

but if his temp climbs at a steady state as engine load increases i'd be concerned, although he shut it down before it got "hotter" who say's it wouldn't..

regardless if it is 200* 220* a properly working cooling system with a 180* should balance out at a given point..not increase progressively
