Default Hmm Third Member ?

I'm looking into a Strange 9 Inch.

For street/track use which option do you think is best?

A) 35 Spline Locker

B) 31 Spline Posi

I realize the more splines means more strength.

Right now the power output of the car isn't great enough to even require 31 splines, but since the motor is the last area to be modified, it will be pretty powerful, soon.

I've got a 35 spline detroit locker in my chevelle and while it generally has good street manners, if you try to get on it around a turn the outer wheel likes to skip a bit.

I plan on doing some autox in this thing so would a posi be best? I don't think strange offers 35 spline posi's or id get that.

I guess if i ever smoke the 31 spline set up I could just change third member and axles.

I have a Currie 9 inch in mine. The 31 spline posi should be fine especially if you are doing Auto X

Thanks

Are there any companies that sell driveshafts for foxes with t-5s and 9 inches? I don't feel like measuring all the dimensions required for a custom drive shaft, but I may have to.

a 9" for auto X is a bit excessive... not to mention heavy in the *** end

22 lbs differance between the 8.8 with drums and 9" with 11" explorer disc brakes. While the 3rd member may be heavy the 9" case weighs very little.

For what it cost for the 9" vs the 8.8 I think I'd stick with it for autoX.

Stick with the 8.8 or the 9? I'm not going completely autoX... it's just that I occasionally would like to hit up the course, maybe once-twice a year. I just don't want to commit to a locker for that reason.

I've already got the discs, not drums. The extra weight of the 9 in would only be bad due to unsprung weight. As for extra weight in the rear... it kind of brings the center of gravity closer to the center of the car.

I guess I could stick with the 8.8.... but while I have the chance why not go to a 9 incher.

I plan on high horsepower in the future, and I don't know the limits of an 8.8.

Plus I don't feel like screwing around with c clip eliminators and also have to convert the 8.8 to 31 spline.

Speaking of sticking with the 8.8. How does one go about doing C clip eliminators? If I chose to stick with the 8.8.

Also, would I want to use 94-95 31 spline axles in my 8.8 that has cobra 5 lug brakes in the rear?

I've seen well built 8.8s handle 1000+ hp, It's a close copy of a Chevy 12 bolt. Unless you plan on quick gear changes I'd stick with the 8.8. I can swap out 3rd members in mine in about 30 minutes or less than an hour at the track. I have a 3:25, 4:10 and 4:56's for mime.
