Default 84 GT preformance help.

Hello I'm new to the site.

i just bought a 84 mustang gt 5.0 it has some mods but im not sure what has been modded. i bought it from my grandpa and he bought it from someone else and i this is my first car that i can upgrade so i don't have experience in high powered cars(or reletivly high powered compared to what i was driving ) and modding

it has a good bit of power but i want to make it even more powerful.
i'm currently a college student and don't have a job yet (had a tough quarter so had to skip on a job) and therefore have a small amount of income to work with. so...im wondering what i could do to increase power that would not cost very much. im not really looking for a race car because i still need to keep a somewhat good mpg because of the distance i have to drive when i go home (over 2 hour drive) but i would like it to be fast.

what would be the best things to start changing first?

thanks,

Corky.

as far as cheap i dont know but i can tell you getting bolt ons are worth nothing.. im not like other people and just because i bought something that did nothing ill try to lie about it ... i bought a 100% stock 1990 gt and i decided to give it a tune up so i bought

ford racing spark plug wires
msd blaster coil
msd dizzy cap
mac cold air intake
mgw shifter

and all it did was add no power but the shifer was really nice

so i would not suggest you waste money on any bolt on crap just get a intake manifold or something

yeah thank you i forgot to specify...in cheap i mean upgrades that will not cost much...not cheap parts like bolt-on

i do want quality parts i just need to go slow on what i buy because i don't have much money. so i guess im asking what would give me the best increase in hp/speed without breaking the bank. atm my budget is around $300-$400...i know thats not much but that all i got for the moment.

edit: im working on pics no camera atm and my car is parked in the parking lot(about 1/2 mile from my dorm )

thanks for the reply,

Corky.
