Default Ignition switch

Sorry if this has been asked before.

Is it true that Foxes made in the 90's had bad ignition switches and they had a recall on them?
Someone was telling me that even after they had a new ignition switch put in for the recall, that it still caught fire. He said it was just sitting in the garage and without a key in it, it kept trying to start and caught on fire.

Is this something I need to get checked out? My Fox is stock, so I would assume mine has the original or the one installed for the re-call?
Do I need to have this switched out?

Run your vin number on the Ford site. It will say whether there is an active recall for your car or not.

They're cheap enough anyway. I'd do it regardless on a car like that. $25 and a philips screwdriver, sure beats fire insurance deductables.

I think it's hit or miss. Mines never been changed and I have had no problems. If you feel more comfortable having it replaced, go for it. Can't hurt that's for sure. Well, unless the person replacing it is an idiot. If you know what/where you're looking, take a peak at it. If there is a problem w/ it getting hot, you should be able to see discoloration or melting from heat/poor connection in the switch area and or attaching harness. You could also unplug it and inspect the terminals for the same indications.

inspect the pin connections for overheating, I've been doing this on my recent aquisition/89 vert and have found a few problem areas

Wow, thank you guys for the info on this.
If its not that expensive like you guys say then I think I am going to check into getting it replaced. Maybe the same time I have a new clutch put in ( I hope soon).
So if getting a Ford replacement is not great, what brand do you guys recomend for a stock Fox that has only moderate upgrades in the future?

I might check out my Haines manual and see how hard it is to get to it and take a look.
