power steering pump

Default power steering pump

my power steering pump whines really loud even though the fluid is full. does it definately need to be replaced?

A new pump will prob whine too, its just the nature of them. Mines maybe 2 years old and pretty damn loud.

if you buy them from autozone they will...lol...i JUST bought a reman one from pep boys remaned by pro-stop and to my suprise it is quiet as can be

almost all of them make the typical Ford whine, my dad went thru about 5 in his stang, trying to get rid of the noise

Here's a trick you guys can try after replacing the pump. I have had good luck doing this. BEFORE you start the car, disable the engine, (however you want to so it won't start) then crank the engine over while turning the wheel back and forth for a minute or two. This will help bleed the air out of the lines and the pump before you start it. I had another tech I worked w/ show me this trick.

Fords are notorious for p/s pump whining. If you can get the whine to go away, or find a quiet pump, feel lucky.

the one I got saturday , the box was crushed a little and covered in dust and had the part number crossed out and a new one written in pen, I was sceptical when I saw that and was almost certain I'd be returning it, but I was sure wrong
