Default dizzy stabbing issues

ok i feel really stupid for posting this. i've done this a 100 times but for some reason i cant get my dizzy to drop in.

i've had the oil pump rod out, made sure it fits into the dizzy, thats not the problem. the dizzy will drop just far enough to slip over the tapered tip of the pump rod. but i still have a good inch or so before the dizzy will seat in the hole. it doesnt even contact the cam, i can completely spin the rotor. i've spun the engine manually, spun the rotor, slammed the fackin dizzy down. this thing has me in a fit of rage cause it will not drop. i've inspected the hole, there is nothing in the way. i have no idea what the fack is going on. why wont my dizzy drop?

take the driveshaft out and see if the dizzy will drop in then.If not you may have a bur or 2 stopping it from going any further

you can pull the shaft out?? you shouldn't be able to.....there is a little collar on there to keep it from pulling up, once I had that collar slid up to far and wouldn't allow dizzy to drop down far enough

Sometimes after dropping it in, you have to bump the engine for it to drop the rest of the way down.

That collar also keeps the shaft from coming out of the oil pump. If it comes out, it's bye bye oil pressure and whatever else it does damage to.

there was no collar. my neighbor told me about it too. there wasnt one in there when i had the motor apart the first time, this last time, or this time around. i have no idea what that collar is supposed to even look like. in the history of this motor its never had one.

once the distributor is in the shaft won't fall out, that just keeps it from coming out when pulling the dizzy up , incase it desides to stay lodged in the dizzy shaft
