Default Pretty Excited! 88 Vic Engine!

My dad called me today and told me his buddy has an old 88 crown vic 302 he wants to get rid of ! He's had the engine for a while, just never used it. (hes a chevy guy, had plans with the 302, never got around it it )

Hes just tired of it sitting in the garage, and if i pick it up, its mine.
Not sure on mileage.
Its complete from pan to intake.

Questions: Does this have any fancy stuff?
ie. 24lb injectors, 65mm t/b ? i tried looking it up, no dice. Only found that older vics had the maf/tb stuff. Not sure about injectors.

Are there any differences?

Will the block be decent to build up? Any difference in the 302?

Regardless, im pumped.

unless its the cop motor, its a non HO 5.0, which means it has around 150 or so hp, I think, a different firing order and I am not sure if it has forged pistons

if the motor is free, grab it but keep in mind the only usefull parts are the block and timing chain cover. can use those to build a nice 347 so you can keep driving your car now, while your building it.

Alright, well my plan was to strip it in the summer ( at uni now )and eventually start building it up. ( over a long period of time )

Most likely a 347. Im really loving that idea haha.

I was looking in august on kijiji, for 302 blocks, pretty readily available in my area. But setting me back about $300 for pan to intake.

Ok a few questions here, if it is a flat tappet, should i even bother? Or should i wait to get a roller block? Again, definitely thinking a 347.

Second question. Just a side question, i want the thread to focus on the vic. Called my dad gave him this info, he told me his buddy has a truck that ,may be hitting the junk yard soon.

its a : 1993-94 f150 has a 302

what are the details on this engine?

And id be pulling it out of the truck, so again pan to intake.

Im definitely still grabbing the 302, even it ifs to take it apart and not use it.

I dont plan on using the vic engine in the mustang., i would deffs be doing mostly a full rebuild on a seasoned block.

And again thanks for the quick replies guys!

I would do a serious and realistic assessment of how much time and money is going to go into this vic motor vs. some other option, even if it meant saving up some more start up capital.

My friend had an '88 vic since new - just got rid of it recently. I would not bother putting time and money into that motor. I would start with something better. There are some great options out there if you look.

Either way, best of luck!
