ok im new here so i will say hi to everyone first...now to the point...i have a 88 5.0 5speed and i need to regear the rear end to wake the car up some more and dont know what to put in it....and also the engine is built and was wondering were someone would guess the hp is at i have 289 hi-po heads shaved, 2.25 in. intake 2.125 in. exaust, ported and polished, full roller setup, 1.7 ratio rockers, intake is ported, stock throttle body, cold air intake, tuned long tube headers to 3 in. exaust,
every cylinder is exactly the same from flow in to flow out same psi same distance exaust port to tip of tail pipe, runing a 12.5 : 1 CR....all the answers i can get will help so thank you

 

and how did you get that big of valves in 289 heads?? seeing is how a 1.94/1.60 set up has the valves nearly married to one anothers seats

 

Those valve sizes are more for a 429, not a 289.

 

ill get the pictures to prove it when i pull the heads and freshen the engine this spring...now back to the topic what do you all figure it is puting out?...and the valves are just about touching

 

if u want a new gear go with a 3.55 or 3.73 that will wake it up

 

With valves that size, my guess is about 1000+ hp at the front wheels... and with power like that you don't need to worry about better gears.
