Default Steering Rack

I've been thinking of buying the Flaming River steering rack and wondered if there is really any benefit in doing so beyond dropping 30 lbs. My steering isn't bad, just a little loose.

I know you can get a rack & pinion kit or just rack & pinion and was curious if anyone thinks it's worth an additional $220 for the whole shooting match.

keep the power steering.

I swapped to manual in my car. I hated it. Luckily for me, I found a sucker that was willing to buy my manual stuff AND give me his power steering stuff.

I'm much happier now

I drove my 85 Capri for 4 years with a manual rack... parking is the only thing that sucked.

How will you drop 30lbs by changing a rack?

I changed ours over due to the turbo kit. I like it I like the way it feels on the road it is a bit tight in parking places but my wife drivers it so it can't be that bad and she is only 5ft tall on a good day. while it did drop some weight it frees up HP also. and the space and the clean look is so much nicer.

i got a summit power quick-ratio a couple years ago for my previous mustang. i also upgraded to a low-pro shaft for header clearance. the difference was night and day. steering obviously was more sensitive due to less effort. it's 3 years old now and still looks brand new. doesn't leak a drop (like the factory units)

So it sounds like the consensus seems to be the weight drop isn't as signifificant as they claim and it's not worth the headache in driveability.

My stock power steering setup doens't leak at all, so I'll focus on my brakes or some other mod next.

BTW- I did just get my clutch paks repalced and am back to two whelkl burnouts. I'm ready for the track this spring.
