starting problems
hey guys, i have a 95 mustang gt auto and the car started and drove fine since Ive had it and i came out in the morning to go to school and it wouldn't turn over. when i turn the key all the lights come on but it just wont crank. could you guys tell me what to check to see whats the problem? Ive searched the forum but all the threads seem to have their cars turning over but just not starting.I would really appreciate the help thanks

Your lights will still come on if you don't have enough juice to crank. Take your battery to autozone or someone like that and they will tell you if it is bad. If it is good but needs a charge, they might even charge it for you. If it is not the battery, it could be the starter. Get a friend to sit in the car. Get under the car with a hammer. When you are ready to strike the case of the starter, have your friend turn and hold the key. That is when you give the starter a few good hard taps (on the metal case only!) This technique will break loose a 'stuck' starter. If the car then starts, drive to the store, buy a starter but leave your friend in the car with it idling. Drive home and install it.

Test the control circuit for the starter with a test light. If theres no power going from the ignition switch to the ignition switch terminal on the starter solenoid when the key is turned into the start position, then you need to track the wiring back to the neutral saftey switch then to the ignition switch.
Hows the starter solenoid ground?
Did you try to start it in neutral (if its Auto...)?
And +1 on testing the battery.

the battery checked out fine. I did also try and start it in neutral (its an auto) with no luck. so i guess that leaves the starter? its gotten really cold with high winds and snow so ill see what its looking like tomorrow (if its cleared up) and let you all know how it goes.
thanks guys
