Nitrous!
Ok I cant afford h/c/i so i was looking at this kit
http://www.americanmuscle.com/zex-mu...-96-04-v8.html
Is this safe for my basicly stock 5.0? my engine has about 120 000 miles and compression on the cylinders is 140-150. If I get this kit what will I need to do too my car and what else will i need? Im kinda scared about nitrous as everyone is telling me im gonna blow my engine blah blah... Id like to use the 100 shot

that is prob one of the safest kits. it has the brain box which is a WOT switch. that is the kit i am running. well its halfway installed..
but you wont blow up your engine. its perfectly safe if you use it correctly.
just run a step colder plug and gap them to like 32 instead of the 52

K well do i need a better fuel pump then stock? Also the kit doesn't come with alot, wont i also need a pressure gauge, bottle opener, window switch, bottle heater, and purge system too? also the kit says use a min of 40 psi? so im guessing i needa adjustible fuel pressure regulater also. So by running less gap and colder plug and more fuel pressure wont this make my car ****ty unless its on nitrous? Ill hardly ever use it...
your fuel pressure is 40-42psi STOCK.
you will need to upgrade your fuel pump, a step colder plugs (gap them to .35-ish), need a higher octane gas, and drop your timing.
a bottle warmer and pressure gauge is a must in my opinion. If it is cold out, and your bottle is cold, your pressure could be a 800psi, which sucks, and you wont make much power.
but you push the bottle up to 1100psi with the bottle warmer, and it will fly compared to low PSI.
I also have a purge, which is nice to adjust your bottle pressure (you purge the system to cool the bottle.) its not nessisarry to clear the lines, you can bump the arming switch while at wide open throttle during your burnout to get the air out of lines, or if your using it on the street you can just give it 75% throttle, and tap the throttle to wide open a couple times to just clear the lines.

not necessarily "better" just new and good running. if it's the original it's safe to say it's not at 100% anymore, 190 is more than enuff even with 19 lb'ers
no you don't "need" any of them but some are good to have
pressure gauge on the bottle is good enuff, better if you can see it though
bottle opener is nice to have but a wasted $200 imo
window switch is complete overkill and not needed at all but if it made you feel better then do it
bottle heater on the other hand is pretty important, if the bottle isn't AT LEAST 75* you'll be underpowered and using more nitrous. so it depends where you live and when u use it
purge isn't needed either.... actually you'll launch better without purging it cuz you'll have vaporized nitrous in the line and it will hit softer til you get good liquid nitrous in the line
no you don't and yes it will but very minor
wot fp is about 42 psi
.042" gap is safe enuff, i use stock copper plugs not colder.
the bigger issue will be timing.... it's a good idea to start about 10* timing with higher octane gas, but as you get used to kit and weather conditions you'll when you can push it further
on cool days i run 12* timing and 89 octane on a dry 80 shot, and with that being said.... for 100 shot and under dry kits are great no matter what ne1 says but if you want wet go wet
you actually have a better chance of breaking stuff with a wet kit since your squirting fuel through the rough casted intake and it can puddle but they are very safe too
dry kits only squirt nitrous which isn't flammable so it can't ignite and delivers the extra fuel through the injectors. they spike the fp to about 80 psi by vacuum
zex are ok, i like NOS a little better, edelbrock are the exact same thing as NOS, and also NX is a good choice
i used a zex kit once and felt like the parts were a little chinsy. the selonoids are pretty small compared to other kits but it's decent enuff and way better than some of the other kits like cold fusion or some other cheap ones
bottom line is you'll love the nitrous, 100 shot will knock off over 1 full second ET and you just can't get that anywhere else for $500

+1 nitrous bob.i am in the same boat as you as far as being new to nitrous.i have researched this completely and nitrous bob seems to have the best advice. not that other guys are wrong.it seems that small shots are really safe and just make sure fuel system is up to snuff.pump and adjustable reg are a must. i have all supporting mods and had a sct 4 bank chip burned to be safe. i'll be putting in a wideband to make sure.get your car running well then add nitrous.doesn't have to modded out but running as well as it did new.
Those zex kits are nice! we put one on a 02 camaro and it works amazing.
might wana consider puting it on a dyno just to double check that everythign is good, and dont forget about dropping your timing a lil bit

Ok thanks for the good info, Ok so if stock fuel pressure is 40 then i can keep the stock regulator? Right now i have ngk v power plugs are these ok to use on this kit if i gap them less? My timing is at 12 degrees ill bump it down to 10. What octane should i use? We have 94 here at chevron but gas up here in canada is expensive. Also the weather here is very cool, summers are 20-30 degrees Celsius and winters are -4 to 15 degrees Celsius. right now its 10....My car runs well and ive replaced any worn out components and I scanned for codes none except egr which is cause my smog is deleted. Oh and kweb there isnt a dyno around where i live I gotta find out if there is even nitrous fill ups around here lol i live in a small town
i live in a small town too.that's why i'm ordering a wideband as it won't be on a dyno anytime soon.my sct chip was burnt then mailed to me.i'm in manitoba and i talk to mark at WWW.themustangshop.ca. he is pretty good and there prices are really good.allot of stuff is the same price as american stuff or close. checked all over canadian websites and they can't be beat. allso just watch what type of fuel you use.make sure it's not mostly ethonal or methanol.i was told shell is best.and you can run 87 until you juice it then it has to be 92.the americans have no idea what expensive gas is!!!right now for premium were about 5 bucks a gallon!!
