Default Finished 5-lug conv, tire question

Anyone have any experience with BF Goodrich Comp T/A's? These tires were pretty much brand new on the wheels I picked up and I'm WAY less than impressed with the traction. 1st and 2nd gear are a joke if I get on it. Fun to drive, but just bakes the tires.

Clean car. Traction is always going to be an issue with street tires no matter what brand. Everyone asks the question on what to get but we will give the same answer.

^ not true

See Choosing a new tire and see what you need to get your car to hook. There are fundamental differences between a launch tire and a street tire in terms of gaining traction, but the corner OR the lauch will suffer depending on the direction you go.

I'm not looking for like wheel-lifting traction or anything like that, just don't want it to feel like it's on ice when I nail the fun-button. The Mastercrafts I had on my old pony wheels were better and I know those were a cheap tire, just surprised that these are really noticably worse.

I just did a 5 lug conv on my 90' notchback and put 275's BFG Supersport A/S and am not to pleased with traction. The 245 Yokohama YK520's I had hooked up better imo. But like the other guy said, these are all daily driver tires rated at 30k miles or more.

If you want some traction on the street pick up some stickier compound like Nitto 555's or equiv. Still not an all out drag or race tire but something you can drive from the street to the track with.

goat... I see Comp T/A written on the tire, but cannot find them anywhere. It appears they have been discontinued. I keep finding links to TireRack (site sponsor) and Tire Rack says "We were unable to find a match for the BFGoodrich tire you selected."

How old are they and what is the treadwear (UTQG) rating on them? The tread pattern is a performance oriented one and probably good in the rain, but suspect they are in the 300~350 UTQG range. I don't see an aggressive outer edge for corners, so I would guess they are geared toward general performance and higher mileage.

They appear to be this tire....

There are a some reviews on ***THIS*** page and thought the first one may have been YOU! (he he). Most of the reviews I find are unhappy as for a performance tire, but cannot find any hard info on the tires themselves.

Weird, the tires are I believe around 1-2 years old at most. They were on the wheels when I bought them. The guy I bought them from said he got them from Tire Rack and put around 3000 miles on them and then bought a pair 18" Saleen wheels so he sold me these. I'll have to check the UTQG rating and see what it is.

LOL, no, not my comments...although they are my feelings! I wouldn't buy these puppies.

I think they were discontinued for the g-Force T/A's and KDW's. You are gonna want the lowest UTGQ number you can afford to replace to get the most grip. There is more to traction than just a low UTQG (treadwear rating), but the lower this number, the softer the tire.

Example: I run Michelin PS2's on my Winter wheels and are 220 UTQG. They are an excellent tire for corner traction and why I run them. I run a Toyo R888 (100 UTQG) on my Summer wheels and are really a track tire, but hold the road like the dickens on the street, so I run them much of the year. I got about 8K~10K miles from them last year, but AX'd them about 10 times and spend a day running around Infineon.

Also, you will find that getting real good grip will cost you big $$$, but keep your ride heading straight down the road rather than drifting sideways at a stoplight!

Thanks for all the info Jazzer, I appreciate the time! My car usually only sees about 1000-2000 miles a year so tread life isn't terribly important...although I do want to get a few seasons out of them at least. I'd like to just have a burnout festival with them and be done. I'll see how they go through the summer. Thanks again for the advice.
