Default help pick "mini" starter

So while pulling the trans and such to replace the clutch, one of the ears on my OEM starter broke off.

damn starter worked great, never gave me issues, probably the original one, and the damn metal on the case comes apart

So I want to "upgrade" a bit.

its the oem starter, so its HUGE and about 10lbs, I would like to get a "mini" style starter, to fit better under there, allow long tube headers easier, and to save a bit of weight.

the best one I found on summit is $150
Powermaster 9103 - Powermaster PowerMAX Starters - Overview - SummitRacing.com

I don't want to have to spend that much if I dont have too. I have heard that you can use 1994-1995 5.0 mustang oem starters, which are mini starters, and I have heard the thunderbirds came with OEM "mini" starters.

anyone can confirm this so I can just order a 1994-1995 5.0 starter, or thunderbird 5.0 starter?

thanks for any help.

Thats what I was thinking. Isn't there some rewiring you have to do with the solenoids?

buy the starter first then go back and return the one you have, that way they won't notice the difference
