Question Rust fix question! Need Help!

Hey all,

I'm finally giving some much need love to me 92 LX 5.0! JOY! I bought her new, and will never let go!

I'm in the process of compounding and cleaning etc.....but, she's developed two rust spots. One on each rear wheel well. They are not rotted thru, it appears to be surface only. I'm not in the financial situation to re-paint yet, so, I was hoping someone could provide, or point me to detailed info on how to fix at home.

I have a compressor and DA sander.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

For anyone that might looking for vids and steps in painting process, Sherwin Williams has e pretty good web-site:

Sand it down to metal, and apply primer/paint, they make small rattle cans of stock colors that work well.

tape off the area and if you have access to a hand held glass beader , hit the small spot with that = gets the rust out of the pitted area

Thats not surface rust. the metal is bulged out and the paint is bubbled cutting and replacing it is the only way to get rid of it permanently. You can grind it down or sand blast it but since there is going to be rust on the other side of the panel there isn't much you can do besides try to slow it down.
You could always try applying some sort of rust check spray(oil spray) or something to slow it down until you can get it fixed properly.
