Default Automatic Shifter.

Hi guys i just finished my rebuild on my c4 trans and just finished install it. Now i'm in need a good shifter. I don't have any experience since i've always used stick.

I'm wondering what you guys would recommend from ur experience. Vehicle is 1988 mustang coupe. With a c4 full manual vb reverse pattern and has a trans brake. So i'm thinking i'd like a shifter with an activation switch?

Any thoughts or opinions welcome.
One more thing if i may since i'm new to this. Can someone tell me the difference between gate and ratchet shifters and what is better? I see you can get one with both?

i woud say have the transbrake somewere else, ive found that with an activation switch on the shifter i will randomly hit it on accident.
The quarter stick hurst shifter is what i have, havnt driven the car with it but feels great!
also a mounting idea for you (in the ash tray with a plate covering the existing hole)

I run the Quarter stick also but in the stock location with the Holcomb motorsport plate that sinks it in the floor then used the stock stick boot over the top of it and cut a small hole for the the lock leaver. looks totally stock and I always get if that thing is a stick why don't it have 3 pedals..LOL

lol thats awsome about the 3 pedal thing. My buddy had a firebird that was auto, then he converted it to stick, then back to auto.... Needles to say when all was said and done, he was to lazy to remove the pedals, or disingage the safety clutch pedal start, so you still had to have the clutch pedal pushed in to start an automatic car.... lmao

I have the t/brake switch right on my shift lever. Dive the car on the street all the time and haven't had a problem. I have a foward manual valve body, so i used the stock shifter. I have a QuarterStick in my Gremlin race car and i like it. If you are just going to race your car, you can mount the switch on the left side of your steering wheel.

the shifter will come with the hardware you may need to cut the arm off the shaft on the trans. cant remember if it is a have to thing or not.
