Question GT40 heads

Need input from the 5.0 experts. I have a 1989, 5.0 EFI in a Factory Five Cobra Replica. It is stock except for the B303 cam and side pipes. I am planning to do a few upgrades to the motor and would like to know if anyone has the same set up. I would like to put GT 40 heads and a matched MAF and anything else to make this a trouble free change. Any thoughts on this? Maybe a better combination of heads and fuel injectors, etc.

I am not the expert on the 5.0, I could use some advise if some has done this or a similiar set up. I would like to get about 75-100 additional HP.

Thanking you in advance.

Glen

My brother has a gt40 crate and he loves it. I have never cared for ford racing parts but they work better than I thought. The heads are definatly better than the production e7.

if you wish for that kind of hp increase, better heads, cam and intake and all supporting mods will be needed

The GT40's are a great starter head. It is a well tested combo for a budget minded build. There will be those that say just go aluminum heads, yada yada yada but that is not obviously needed. The GT40's with an explorer intake or an actual Cobra intake is a good "stock" combo. Some people upgrade to 24lb injectors with them and some don't but you might as well get the 24lb's. With this you also need a MAF calibrated for 24lb injectors. You will NOT need to get a tune of any kind. The A9L computer can compensate for ALOT of modifications.

Just get a custom cam and good heads + supporting mods. There's no reason you can't get 300+rwhp out of a 302 without much effort.

I would stay away from the GT-40P heads because you would have to change your existing headers. The Edlebrock Performer heads/intake is a nice package that you can consider. It basically depends how much you want to spend. Budget wise, you can install a set of ported E7's and a Cobra or GT-40 intake. The stock 19lb injectors will handle 300+ horsepower. Hope this helps.

Welcome to the boards!

Heres is a good link to the GT40 vs GT40P debate -

http://forums.corral.net/forums/show...ighlight=gt40p

I would go the GT40 route myself, just because of the header issues as stated above when using the 'P's

The only difference is the p headers n they have a 1.94 in vlv vs 1.84 flow charts are identical pretty much within 5 cfm.

The P's can be ported to flow more than the regular 40's can though. For those who already have FRPP headers then they can swap GT40P's on with no issues. I have thought about getting a set for mine. If you are looking to port either setup yourself there are a bunch of references of the net that you can go by to get an idea.
