Default which mid pipe?

Im wanting to add a full exhaust to my aod hatchback. ive got the basic mods like cold air, 70mm mass, 65mm tb, 13 d. timing and flowmaster catback. im sure adding this will really make a difference and enhance my existing mods but im stuck on either a catted x or hpipe? ill be using shorty headers! ive came across a good deal on a H but ive heard the X makes more power on only highly modified cars right? some say yes, some say no go for the X. im confused! high flow H or X? how much hp with this be worth?

Don't know about HP, unless you have a dyno, but my LX came with an OR X pipe and it sounds smoother flowing than a H pipe. people state the H pipe gives it that rumbly muscle car sound. IMO I could care less, if mine had been stock when I took possession of it I still would have gotten an OR X pipe just cause from what I have seen on past fox bodies.

H gives you more of that deeper "musclecar" sound (or it just sounds like every redneck with a chevy K1500 and a flowsmasher on it...)

X gives you a higher pitched tone, especially at the crossover rpm ~3000 it starts to scream

sorry about the crappy audio quality

so a H pipe would be better for a mild street car?

After reading many threads on the H vs X debacle it comes down to this, A: Do you want deep throaty rumble? OR B: Do you want a smooth sound? It all comes down to personal preference.

Hey Foxbod90, I took these vids about an hour ago. The motor is stock, stock headers, OR X pipe, MAC Mufflers and MAC tails. From the headers back it is 2.5". On the video the car is quiet, but smooth. In person it is a little bit louder and the drone isn't bad. Although I like the drone.

thats why i dont have an x-pipe. spent it all on paint lol

really though im with sn95 with this.... i have a h-pipe and never really thought about spending the money on a x-pipe. heard a buddys car after install, and man i miss the sound of a x-pipe on a 5.0 its just a signature sound and more performance over H.

H just sounds like some red neck pick up... but hey you might be into that sort of thing which is cool with me. lol
