Smile GT to LX conversion? (not tech!)

hey guys,

I have a 1988 GT which I would like to get painted fairly soon so I was looking for the moldings and ground effects etc to replace my old ones. I haven't had much luck and if I could choose, I would rather loose the plastic and go towards a cleaner LX style.

I have been told the bumpers are diff so I can't just toss on LX bumper covers.

Anyone have any ideas or options?

Really appreciate it!

AC.

You can always get the cervinis cobra ground effect kit.I have the same issue,in my opinion to strip a gt to an lx is blasphemy

Welcome to the board.
I also think that it's sort crazy to try to convert a GT to an LX.
Just let it be what it is.........

The bumper reinforcements under the covers are the same. You can just swap out the covers and go. The molding that goes around the car is different from GT to LX so to do it right you will need to change those as well.

One thing that I always laugh about when it comes to a GT now a days, especially in my area,....is when people say they want a fox mustang they want a GT....apparently they think the fox is like the 94+ stangs in that the GT is the only version that has a 5.0. Then a lot of people also think that the GT has a better setup than a LX when they are actually the same and the LX is a faster car because of weight.....ignorance.....sorry, not exactly relevant to your post OP but for those who are ignorant on the subject that might read this thread...

Although, I have always thought about putting a Cobra kit on one of mine with the stalker front bumper cover.....

I had a 92 LX once and sold it. Now I got a 91 GT. I think the GT has a more sporty stance, but I think the LX looks more aggressive with larger slicks on the rear and the dual pipes exiting under the rear bumper.

Since I have a GT now I am wanting to get the stalker front bumper. I wish they had used it originally on the GT.

The problem is it isn't cheap unless you get the insert and the idea of hacking up a bumper to insert it doesn't leave me with a good feeling :P

Installing the cobra insert isn't hard BUT that isn't the only difference with the stalker front bumper if you haven't noticed.

the stalker bumper i thought it was built onto it but the repro stuff comes with a standard gt bumper and cobra insert.as far as gt v/s lx.i like em both for different reasons.i personally have a gt but if i got an lx i want a coupe not a hatch.
