Question '82 Engine buildup

Hey guys, I am new to this forum and have a few questions for yall. I have a 1982 Mercury Capri Black Magic that I have had since I turned 16. But, now I just acquired a second '82 5.0 out of my dads wrecked GT. the engine is in excellant condition, its just missing the fuel pump that I took for mine after it broke its seal.

I really want to utilize this second engine a build it up a little bit. The thing needs to be streetable and reliable, but also have to enough get-up to keep the ricers in my carbon footprint (LOL). I am looking to get 300+ h.p the cheapest way possible since I am still in college. If I could get any help on what heads, intake, carb, and cam to use. Or if you guys have any other ways to accomplish this goal. I would like it to be all motor and no NOS. Thank you for all your help in the future.

Chad

A buddy of mine was telling me that 300hp in a 302 is hard and expensive. But any help on increasing the current hp in the engine would be awesome. I love working on cars but, I am just an average gear head and I am not to sure of myself in any of these technical decisions.

Your buddy needs to stop doing drugs. How much is your budget? Better yet what's your budget?

Yea, I was thinking the same thing after all the articles I've read in magazines and other posts on this very website. But he proclaimed himself as the expert. And I would love to keep it at the lowest possible so I have some left to help out the interior. But money wise I would say $2500-3000. Thank you for the help.

Keep in mind that both of the 302's you mentioned are the old flat tappet type carbed engines.
Very expensive to convert to hydraulic roller lifters.....
