engine idenification

anyone know how to figure out what year engine you have i got no numbes to go by or anything else i think its a late 80's early 90's??????? 5.0 ho efi

on the block above the starter.....its a letter than a number and some more letters/numers...
C=60's c8 is 68
D=70's
E=80's...
