Log on to the CarFax web site and follow the directions. Should be easy.

Just a word of advice, do NOT rely on CarFax to determine if a car has been in an accident.

CarFax rarely if ever shows accidents unless they were very $$$ or it changed the title of the vehicle (i.e. Clean to Salvage).

Typical fender benders rarely will show up.

It seems as long as it was reported it will show up. my car was in a light accident with the p.o and its on there. that guy was the only one to wreck it too damn him.

That sucks. That's pretty rare from my experience.

I reviewed records of hundreds of cars with confirmed accidents, all reported through AAA, Geico, Statefarm, Farmers, etc. Most were fixed at recommended dealers and many with police reports, yet years later were never shown on CarFax.

After speaking with a CarFax rep, I was told that many accidents don't show up unless they were beyond a certain dollar amount (which was high), or changed the title of the vehicle.

It could be that the particular company (insurance, police, etc.) that dealt with your accident had better communication with CarFax.

This isn't just for CarFax, but Autocheck both had similar results in regards to reporting typical fender benders, which wasn't very good.

That's odd, I use to have a metro when gas was through the roof and I was going through college, it had a tiny amount of front end damage and a guy with a carfax account ran the vin and pulled up a minor parking lot incident. That's pretty small so not sure why it wouldn't show minor things for you

Agreed, the only people who benefit from carfax records are the carfax people when they take your money. My 2010 was hit in January of last year and had $8000 worth of damage. When I traded it in June for my 2011 the dealer checked the carfax and nothing showed up (to my advantage).

Just lucky I guess

It's weird, my data was based on 3 western states, so it could be different depending on how things are reported from state to state?

It will probably never show up. I have two vehicles I own that have both been in major accidents, they were fixed by the dealer, major insurance covered both, Police reports were even filed, and after 8 & 12 years, neither shows a accident under Carfax.

Even my 2005 GT, which I bought knowing from the owner that it had $2800 in body repairs (done perfectly), 3 years later, no accident on Carfax.
