Default Alternator differences ??

87 GT listing shows a 60-65 amp. alternator for the manual transmission. The automatic transmission shows a 75 amp. Why?
Why can't you use 75 amp. on all that year? They look the same in pictures.

The amperage is higher on automatics because of idle speed variables caused by fluid dynamics in automatics. It's the same casing, just different internals. It should bolt up just fine, but if you're needing an alternator on a Fox, might as well do the 3g conversion, especially if you run fog lights or aftermarket stereo equipment.

I have considered the the 3g conversion.....I do have fog lamps currantly inop. going to do upgrade to them. 3g will put out at least 100 amps. Correct?

Sorry to bust in on your thread with a question eg2bt.
9redfox, I have been going over what alternator I want for a while now. I plan on doing an electric fan down the road. I only run a stock radio and headlights and that already makes the alternator have trouble at night when idling. Will that 95 amp alternator work and be adequate for the electric fan or should I look at a bigger alternator?

Yeah, I read that thanks. Was asking more if you used the alternator and it solved all stock alternator problems at idle. I read the electric fan does 18 amps, I think this would work since the fan would not kick on until I would be moving.
