I know bikes can go upwards of 40-50k+ but I would never assume that because some have reached that with no issues that the one you're looking at will. I've owned a ZX-12, ZX-10 and a GSX-R1000.
If you get a 600 you're just going to want to get a 1000, so don't do that then have to worry about upgrading to a bigger bike, either go with the bigger one or don't do it, IMO. I went from no bike, Sold my '97 Cobra with 48k miles to my parents and got the ZX-12. Bikes are nice, but dangerous and it's hard not to act stupid on them. Plus many drivers don't pay attention, so I honestly would never get another bike, no matter how much I wanted to. I always consider 1k car = 10k bike, because of peoples habits when driving, then tires are expensive and don't last long, they start smoking easy, and before you know it you need a top end rebuild. Don't do it, take it from an experienced person.

Just know what you want for your car if you're going to sell it. I personally don't like 600's, but with all the idiots that don't pay attention while driving I'd never drive another bike on the street anyways.
