It's really not a big deal... only happens when you're driving very slowly anyway. If you don't want it to happen don't drive slow or shift at a higher/lower RPM.

I've shifted at 10mph, 15mph and never seen it.

so my understanding is that the problem is related to engine speed in 1st gear only and not throttle position/load etc?

under 25% throttle, between 15-19mph. Those are the only parameters that will force a skip shift. You will have to try very, very hard to get it to engage. I really wouldn't worry about it.

i test drove one today and i didnt get any message or anything so im not worried about it :)

Would not worry about this. Even if it were an issue then there would be an aftermarket bypass for it. Vettes have the skip and it bothers most owners but several companies sell a very cheap bypass and most with the C-6 order them and never worry about it again. The Vette will force you to shift into fourth instead of second but with the bypass, you can shift the way you want and override it. I say, don't worry about it. Besides, the way most will drive the 5.0, they will never see the issue come up....

I'm positive I don't have this, but I'll try again . . .

Finally!! I got a message to display about the 1-4 shift. Apparently someone is right about us that have the 3.73 gears..I had to ride 1st gear up to about 3k rpm and under 20% throttle to get the message and by the time I went to shift into second (to see if it would slide me to fourth) the message was gone and I still got in 2nd gear. Not surprisingly this issue is much less relevant to those with the 3.73 gearing.

So, is it a message only (in an attempt to get you to save fuel) or does it force you to 4th gear?

Doesn't seem to be as big of an issue with the 3.73 rear end. What I've experienced is when the message light comes on, if you quickly try to go to 2nd
with the shifter, it pretty much forces fourth gear. If you do a "slower shift", it will allow you to go to 2nd. That has been my experience with a 3.55 rear end.

Well, I tried again this morning and couldn't replicate it.
