Skip shift....?

Those of you with manuals, hows that skip shift. i have never driven a car with it...

kawasakiguy 06-18-2010 10:11 AM

Sucks and shouldn't be installed in anything, the point of the manual is I get to choose what gear the car goes into.

Someone will come out with a bypass...

just get a shop to tune your car and get rid of the feature

I don't have it. My ****'s old. 87 Ram and 93 Mustang but I skip gear often.

My Ram's got a 4.0:1 first with a 3.55 rear. 2nd is a bit tall for uphill or with payload but 1st is too low when empty.
The Mustang is 3.73's so as many of you already experience, 1st is way too low for normal driving. Often it's take off in 2nd, use 3 to get to the city speed limit then slip it into 5th since at this point, I'm done accelerating and just need to maintain speed.

umm i havent ran into it all on my 2011

Thats good to hear...

Hey guys, new here I just picked up my 5.0 yesterday and already have about 100 miles on it. When the sales guy was driving it from the detailing lot to the pickup area, he said there was a message on the display recommending a shift to improve fuel economy...fast forward

i have been reading about the skip shift and have spent ALL DAY experimenting with different speeds and loads in 1st gear trying to get it to kick in or at least see a message...nothing. Does anyone know any exact details about how to make it kick in?

I have gone like as slow as I could in 1st gear and shifted at 1k,2k,2.5k and nothing...this may be good news to the people that are worried about it being an issue. I can't even make the thing do it intentionally lol

I have no idea what this thread is referencing. There is no hint of 'skip shift' feature on my 2011 GT.

And I had this on my 94 Trans Am, so I know what it's about. The Mustang has nothing like it.

Ringo01 06-19-2010 11:17 AM

The cars do it... it happens if you slowly accelerate in first gear and it happens just under 20 mph... The car will say "1 to 4 shift for fuel economy"

It's really not a big deal... only happens when you're driving very slowly anyway. If you don't want it to happen don't drive slow or shift at a higher/lower RPM.
