Default How to: Shifting the MT-82 Manual trans :-)

If you ever want to learn how to shift a MT-82 manual trans like an automatic then you'll definitely want to take notes from this clip. This is some footage we got last week in our Whipple powered 2011 5.0L GT. Driving the car is the 3X Champ Jeremy Martorella. Watch as he shifts our car to a 10.23@138.80mph. Who said you can't go fast with the Getrag MT-82? 9's coming soon and we're not going to stop there...

Im not sure why everyone is saying the auto is the better tranny? Ive always been a Manual guy anyways & will remain one. I know the new trannys ford has made for the 5.0 are far more superior than previous years but i cant force myself to buy one.

I think for most people, that the automatic is more consistent is the biggest reason - the launch is less likely to be a pass-fail situation. You also get a couple of kinds of help from the torque converter that while they are brief, are still longer than the rotational inertia-derived torque spike that you get from a hard, no-lift upshift with a clutch.

I wonder if Jeremy has any ancestral roots in common with one Ronnie Sox?

Same here, and believe it or not, my wife is almost equally unwilling to go automatic. We haven't owned an AT car in nearly 40 years.

cool vid, id like to see the pedal work too and a better shot of the hands. it looks like he just gives the clutch a fast stomp.

I'm seeing his right foot planted to the floor, at least on the 3-4 shift - using the WOTbox or ?

You don't have to lift off the throttle if you're fast enough. I used to do it all the time with my 1995 with the Tremec TKO. Its easy on the 1-2 and 3-4 shift. 2-3 shift is the tricky one.

No WOT box or 2 step. Just quick hands and feet.
