I love the car. Dealership is great. I am remaining positive...but still disheartened. The light came on just before I got home with the car. I promptly went back to the dealer. The code came back as a misfire on two cylinders. The tech said he took it for a good loop from exit to exit on the freeway and did not duplicate the misfire or note any other weirdness. Relieved, I drove home only for the light to come back on. The vehicle was about two hours old at this point (from time of delivery, I mean). I'm keeping it for the weekend as it runs fine, and will be dropping it at the dealer on Monday and driving a loaner while they figure it out. Could this be as simple as a bum plug? Not quite seated plug wire? Anyone had/heard of a similar situation?

very weird, i haven't heard of this happenign to anyone else, you got really really unlucky.
If the trouble comes back next week tell them to keep it, you don't want it, tens of thousands of other 5.0s without issues you can choose from.

Sorry to hear about your new car. My 2012 has 5300 mi and so far I have no issues. I'm already using synthetic oil and the oil level hasn't dropped at all. Check the law in your state concerning the number of days that you have to return the car for a full refund. I think that in Florida is something like three business days. There are plenty of 2012 5.0 to choose from. Good luck.

I've been following this issue here and in other forums and it is more widespread than some realize. My own car (11 GT) had the CEL come on at 9,000 miles. It turned out to be a leaky fuel injector so after confering with Ford my dealer replaced the whole fuel rail assembly. Last week my CEL came on again and the car is still at the dealer while they try to sort things out. From what I've gathered from other forums the ecm in our mustangs is very sensitive to the most minute differences in oxygen levels from cylinder to cylinder which in some cases will trigger the CEL. Most dealers will then check for specific causes which will check out as ok because the overall air fuel mixture remains correct but the problem is being caused by a portion of the o2 that is not reading right. I can't post attachments yet but this info came from Thewrench at allfordmustangs.

Thanks knightryder. I'm dropping the car at the dealer tomorrow. I will encourage them to take it for a good long drive after they identify the code, fix it, and turn off the light. Whatever drive the tech took last time wasn't enough. I don't want to see that light again.
