Default Cams

Thinking about getting cams for my car. but i have no idea where to start, and was curious what you guys would suggest. Ill be staying N/A for a few years and will be sticking with just the basic bolt ons and eventually building up the internals over the next few years to prepare for the eventual F/I.

You have a 2012, with twin variable cam timing capabilities.

Find a better way to spend (read: waste)$1500, the gains are not worth it!

Well since I have a 3v my opinion is kind of useless.

The 4v's don't have many options at this point. You're pretty much stuck with either comp, the Boss Cams, or a "custom" set from JPC or L&M.

With the 4v there are 3458347345 other things I would buy before cams man.

Cams would be the absolute last thing I would do. And if you don't have the ability to install them yourself expect to spend at a minimum of $3,000-$3,500 with parts and labor. And that's probably being generous.

I know a guy that will do a NSR cam install for $150. Granted, he's an outlier, but most places charge around $400 for an NSR install, not $1500.

I was referred to the guy that does a $150 install by a man with a nice setup who knows a good bit about cars himself, otherwise I would be skeptical.

Huh? On these new 5.0 4 valves? Yea a cam swap is easy on a 3v and wouldn't cost as much. On a 4v you really need to pull the motor. Remember there are 32 valve springs to also change.

I was referring to a 3v, but I was also referring to NSR cams. If you are talking about cams that require a valve spring change, yeah it does get expensive.
