Default X pipe question..

13 GT with borla "s" mufflers.

Just recieved a Bassani x crossover "not off road". exact part Part # 5011X http://www.bassani.com/part/5011X

Here's my issue, the borlas alone sound GREAT! With the bassani it now sounds like slightly deeper G35!!! WTF!
Now the long term plan is long tube headers wider over axle pipes, but since i at least want no warranty battles until mid next year I wont do all of those items until april 13.

Why does it now sound slightly better than stock? Are the stock cat's too restrictive? Install F up, leaking?
Also, what are my options other than put OEM H back on or the long term plan?

ohh and btw it now sounds like %$#T!

PS - The X was put on by a legit local shop.
Thanks in advance!

This is one of the reasons I always want to hear other people who have the exhaust systems before I buy them. From your description you just have a bad exhaust combo., you changed the way the exhaust exits by changing from an H to an X pipe.

Yes, the stock cats are restrictive and I wouldn't change the midpipe unless it was to get rid of the cats. exhaust leak? maybe, we'd have to hear it, they'd have to really screw up to cause one with that type of pipe though.

Your best option is to find other 5.0s with exhaust sounds you like and duplicate their setup. (preferably in person, as youtube doesn't do them justice). Personally I'm not a fan of the Borla S sound. So if it were me i'd get rid of the entire exhaust you bought and start over.

Thanks,

There are no leaks even though one clamp was crooked. Just decided to revert back to stock H and hold in to the X until I do Long tubes and either go with hi flow cats or no cats.

I enjoy the way the s type sound just want it louder without any more back pressure noise and there's no way I'm going on an Easter egg hunt for mufflers. Lol pockets ain't that deep.

@mishri - any recommendations?

I have the s-types , but I also eventually bought the Borla x pipe and Borla intermediates. Mine sounds incredible! It roars when I crack the whip and purrs when I'm just cruising. I can't imagine it sounding any better, IMHO.

ah I will tell you the Lethal Performance O/R Xpipe and Pypes Pypebomb system is really loud and sound awesome. But it will set off car alarms for 2 blocks with hard acceleration.

I know with an o/r x it will be around what I want. Just no reason to do that just yet for sound only. Come April when I do long tubes, o/r x, and tune to remove the engine light "still have to pass state inspection". So until then I will just have want the x collect dust in the garage.
