Default Lugging this engine

Ive read that lugging an engine is bad. (aka going full throttle in 6th at like 50 mph)

Do the coyotes have any preventative sensors to stop detonation , even when tuned? Im tuned for 93 octane and use 93 octane.. if the gas is bad though, will the engine automatically reduce timing or will it just blow itsself up?

Also what speed do you all think the minimum for full throttle in each gear is?

I went full throttle this morning at like 60 mph in 4th and it sounded a bit louder than normal, an automatic would have shifted to 3rd or 2nd probably..

What do you all think? How bad is it to lug and what do you consider lugging?

Yes there are sensors for detonation. No there are no preventative measures against lugging.

Lugging is when the engine is turning very slowly and it's struggling to maintain combustion stability. It's usually less than 1,000 RPM, but it could be lower. It makes a distinctive sound.

The reason lugging is bad is that it puts enormous pressure on the bearings (full throttle) while the bearings are moving slowly, which reduces the effectiveness of the lubrication process. Basically the bearings get pounded when you're lugging, even if there's no detonation.

Lugging is ANY acceleration/significant work in too low a gear, not just WOT. It stresses not only bearings but also the crank shaft.

Hmm well I was probably around 3k rpm in 4th gear going full throttle. Car sounds good and makes great torque so it pulls decently, but if its harder on the engine than just downshifting i suppose i would avoid doing this as much as possible.

It seems like it would be bad to go full throttle at any speed in 6th gear.

you got 3K on the clock on the motor as equipped by Ford an yer pretty much good to go in any gear.

Lugging the engine creates incredible load on the rotating assembly. Better to advantage the engine with gearing. It's the purpose of having a transmission.

This engine doesn't really do jack in 6th OD because the OD is so deep, even with 3.73 gears. 5th it loves, because it's 1:1 and the motor loves to rev.

Because of modern engine management, you can get away with a lot more abusive driving practices than before but, still, it's foundationally not good for the engine.

full throttle at 3K rpm IN ANY GEAR is fine buddy....totally fine.

Do not accelerate (except from a stop when slipping the clutch) in any gear under 1,000rpm. Keep acceleration light (i.e. if there's a full cup of uncovered coffee in the cup holder, if it spills you're accelerating too fast) under 1,500rpm. Above that, the oil pump is spinning fast enough that oil starvation isn't an issue.

YMMV.
