Default Ford Racing 4,10 Gears

looking to get these pretty soon...just wondering if there is anything else i would need besides the gears alone...i will be having a shop install them, so i'd like to get all the components i need so i wont have to wait/make multiple trips back and forth to them

i have a 2007 Mustang GT and she just hit the 50k mark

Not going to order them through the dealer? I mean they are FRPP gears...

Id get some diff oil (Might as well change it while you're in there) and call it a day.

Whos doing the work?

You would have to replace the oil when you changed the gears. Use a good Synthetic 75w140 gear oil and a bottle of friction modifier. The shop you're going to may already have this, just check with them.

You CAN change the diff cover as well if you'd like. Depending on how often you plan to do your servicing on the fluids you can get a new diff cover with drain and fill plugs to make it easier in the future. Or if you just want to change it to a polished/chrome one instead. These are just optional though.

ordering from the dealer...EVERYTHING is more expensive...even with my discount, it doesn't make sense...i'll take the 20% off the labor and call it a day

thanks guys

Shad,

I would recommend getting a bearing/installation kit, so that you can replace all bearings/shims/gaskets/bolts at once and not have to do it again.
There is nothing worse than kicking yourself because you have to replace something that could have been done while you were service the diff anyway.
This is called preventative maintenance and I am a firm believer in it!

Beyond that, gear oil and a diff cover, as mentioned above, would be a good choice. As you said it is better to have everything to begin with, then to get there and have the project be put on hold while you source parts. The diff cover will allow easier fluid changes in the future and that is always a good thing!

I hope this helps, let me know if you have any further questions!

Depending on how hard you are on the diff (tire spinning and such) you may also want a trac-loc rebuild kit. It replaces all of the worn friction surfaces in your diff.

I bought a 4:10 ring and pinion from you guys not too long ago and it's now time to have it installed. I held off on the install kit at that time, but will be ordering the kit real soon. My question to you is do I need the install kit AND the Ford Racing Traction - LOK Rebuild Kit w/ Carbon Discs or are the Discs only necessary for the Cobra's and/or alot of track use?

Why dont you buy everything from AM? They have everything you need at decent prices....dont forget to use your forum discount.

I recently purchased FRPP 410 gears. an SCT Tuner and the Royal Purple gear oil for a wicked price as they have a combo package that was on sale.

With the Royal Purple gear oil you do not need the friction modifier. Just make sure you get the right weight of oil though. I believe it is 75W140 for S197 Mustangs.

He works at a Ford dealer, so I figured his prices would be better.

Depending on the mileage and use you may or may not to replace the clutch packs. If you one wheel peel, its time to replace them. Thats how you will know.
