Mach 460 rear deck
Hmm, I guess it wasn't too clear... I want to take out the whole mach460 rear amp deck. But the problem with doing that is that it also houses the speakers and tweeters. I was wondering if there was a way to hook up the speakers without having the whole rear amp deck... They are factory speakers, but the car has been rewired since I had a new h/u installed.
there should be no problem keeping the speakers wired while removing the tray. Ford actually has regular stereo wiring, as well as for the 460. They run a signal cable from the deck to the amps in the back, and then run that signal straight back up to the front of the car. There is a regular ford wire hrns(black rectangular) that is plugged in on the passenger side, in the consol. From there the regular factory wiring goes to each speaker. To bypass the system, disconnect those two hrns and at that point you should no longer have sound from the stereo. You can simply pull that hrns up to where the radio is, and use it as you speaker wires. You will have completly bypassed the 460 now.
I assume your still trying to run off the factory deck. If so this can be done. Remove the speakers from the houseing and top mount them in the holes in the rear deck. You will have to do the same with the tweeters. You do still need the factory amps with the factory deck, so you can move them and remont them somewhere more out of the way. you may have to extend the wires depending where you mount them. All this work will remove the rear enclosure box but keep the factory system in tact. However you will loose some bass response in the rear.
