ONCE AGAIN for the record....i paid RETAIL for my components and spent a little extra on my HU because i liked the black and white BIOlite screen instead of the 9833's blue dot matrix RICER screen...where i got raped was in installation/labor because they charge 75 an hour and did everything at once...factor in the custome box/trim panel, audison 4 guage power/ground/speaker cable/dynamat/dynamat install/adapters for 5x7 to 6.5/custom tweeter mounts into that 75/hour installation fee...and you see where most of that money went...and i only got it done at this shop because he has had 20+ vehicles featured in Car Audio mag including a handful of editor's choice awards for TOP demo car of the year...so i knew it was done right...

also Good Guys told me they would charge 60 and hour for the same set-up...with a PREMADE box...so did i really pay too much....if i wasn't going to do the install myself???

Well I am glad that you paid retail, although off the record I would never pay retail if I didn't get it all for free. But the only advantage about paying the 45% markup at the retail shops is the fact that you get a better warranty(well that is what I tell people) you can get the same warranty if you purchase off of ebay except you have to talk to the maker of the product directly instead of just taking it to the store and getting a free one from the back. Here is how you do it, call the 800 number and transfer to the defective product line, many of them like Alpine will all be automated and you set everything up and then send the product to manufacturer and they will mail you a new one or some times a re manufactured, so all you pay is the $20 shipping and handling. But $60 an hour is the norm for shop install, and when we are talking about a custom box, man that is when I make the money. But $4000 is way to much, I am sure that it sound great because all the EQ's are set perfect but anyone that isn't half brain dead can do that. But of course you got it from a shop that is much nicer than mine.
And I am from Houston. So I guess it really the south west, even worse!!!!

wow didnt know that about ebay..but then i was going to get my stuff of onlincarstereo.com but my shop told me that he would not be liable to honor the manufacturers warranty if one of the components failed because they weren't HIS products...if it failed because it was installed incorrectly or something like that then he said he would take care of it...but since i bought most the components from him (exception radio and wiring/capacitors) he said as long as i have the those components installed by them....he would take care of it if anything failed
