I have a project car, an old computer just collecting dust, and found a touch screen car monitor/radio on ebay. If i hooked up the "radio" and built an enclosure for the computer in the back with an exhaust vent to the underside of the car and ran a monitor cable to the "radio" would that work? Its just going to be a weekend car, and i wanted to load my music up on the PC so i dont have to switch CD's every 5 minutes, and i'm removing the ugly *** fm antenna. Thanks guys!

 

well depending on how that computer hooks up to the monitor, you might need to get a s video to rca to run it to it, I have a friend that hooked one up but he cant control which song he was playing because he just used the aux input, however yours should work because the screen you bought should just act like the computer screen then, the problem would be selecting the song im no computer guy but you would need to figure out how to change songs/load everything without pushing buttons on the key board because I dont know how you would be able to run a "mouse cord" to the monitor so you could use the touch screen.

 

i was thinking about doing the same thing on my car, all you need to do is do what youre saying and if you cant hook up the touch screen just buy a wireless keyboard and mouse. i would suggest loading the songs in your house hooked up to the internet, so that way the songs are named automatically, and you dont have to type in each song

 

It would appear that the unit you want comes with a USB out put for the touchscreen. You computer will need a USB port. Then you will load the drivers they provide and hook up the Monitor cable directly to the computer. As for the audio in your other post about this, I have not looked that deep into it yet. There may be an input on the unit to hook up the soundcard output to the head unit.
I would recomend stripping your computer as much as you can so that you get the fastest boot up. Not only that, set it up so that your MP3 player program opens automatically. Or you could just invest in an ipod or something like it if you just want the computer for MP3.
