Default P.I.E. AUx input adapter

My P.I.E. Aux input adapter just blew on me, after just 2-3 weeks of installing it!

I just ordered a new one but my question is how should it be hooked up.?

I hooked up the original to "..a constant 12V source..." as per the directions. The closest source was the cigarette lighter power line. But I'm thinking because it is powered all the time, even with the car off this may have made it blow so soon.

To those with the adapter, how do you have it hooked up? It would seem logical to power it from the +12V source of the radio so it's only powered when you need it.. If so, does anyone know the color of the +12V wire to the shaker 500 unit?

Thanks!!

I just installed it. The 12 constant probably does not kick in until activated by the aux switch. Kind of like the constant positive to the cig lighter. If PIE says constant versus switched there must be a reason.

The piece sounds great. Hope mine lasts more than 3 wks.

Yeah I called P.I.E. and they told me I did have it hooked up properly, and that it has its own auto switch so it will not draw from the battery when not in use.

I think i actually heard it blow when I was installing a tune from my SCT2. I hooked up my new one and works fine but from now on I'm gonna pullthe cig lighter fuse prior to installing any new tunes.

I just put mine in yesterday and it did not work at all. Thought I did something wrong, called PIE Tech support. They had me go into the box and check the chip part #. I had the wrong chip even though the right box, they are sending me the right chip. The chip should be part # 'B9AUX' if anybody cares.

I recently ordered one of these from discountcarstereo.com and installed it little over a week ago. I wired it to the 12V constant and ground leads using 3M Scotchloks on the radio harness per the instructions. It was working fine until this morning. I pressed the Aux button to listen to my iPod to discover "No Aux Audio" flash at me on the radio display.

After reading this thread, I'm starting to wonder about this product. I've contacted d.c.s.com to inquire about a warranty exchange but have not received a reply yet. Impressions?

Check your 3M locks. More often than not they don't make a good connection.

Let me know.

One thing you can try is disconnect your negative lead to the battery to reset the adapter. Kinda like Cntl-Alt_Del. Obviously, the chip must be the right one or it would not have worked at all. AKA, see my earlier thread. Just call PIE tech support direct, they are attentive. They sent me my correct chip right away and it now works. Their # is 818-678-3690.
Good Luck.

I'll give that a try before I rip the dash apart, thanks.
