Component speakers in 06 GT
Has anyone been putting component speakers in the doors? I will be replacing the Head unit with a Navi and adding a amp as well but I would like to see pictures of the tweeters and where they were placed as well as where you put the crossover.
Thanks

I've got MBQuart premium components in my doors. They can be mounted seperatly or coaxialy, I mounted them coaxialy. The crossovers are big and I wanted a clean factory look so I mounted them in the trunk with my amps. I had to run twice the speaker wire but I got the look I wanted. Btw if you run wire to the doors it is a real pain in the a**!! There is a cannonplug that I had to drill holes for the wires. That was scarry! And there is a metal plate in the way on the driver side so you don't have direct access. Like I said, pain in the rear, but doable. One of these days I'll get some pictures up of my system. Good luck with your's

I manage a car audio shop, and I just couldn't find a good place to put the tweeters - save for flushing into the doors - but I didn't want to cut into my car door. I used JL's XR series Co-axial 5x7's and they sound awsome. You can also make a plate to mount 5 1/4" or 6 1/2" components in a 5x7 space. Other good component sets can be mounted axially like the MB Quart or my favorite, the Boston Acoustics Z series or Pro series.

Hey Greg,
I have a '06 Mustang GT and two weeks ago I had my Shaker 500 system taken out and replaced it with a nice aftermarket system. In my doors I have JL XR653CS 3 way
component speakers. My rear speakers are Polk Momo 5X7 two ways. My headunit is a Alpine 9853 along with a Alpine V12 amp. An Infinity 10 inch 200 watt subwoofer gives
me my bass and a Ipod sits in my glove box. My system is awesome. Custom plates had to be made to mount my 3 ways in my doors. The cool thing about is my system is
excluding my radio everything looks stock. "Tweeters" installed my system and did a great. I will tell you the install took 10 hours to complete. As you know the Shaker system
doesn't sound bad but I was surprised to see that the speaker cones are paper. I highly recommend the JL component 3 ways.

I have MB Quart speakers in the door I put the 6.5" speaker where the sub was in the door and put the tweeter where the speaker was in the upper part of the door. Made my own mounting plates from 1/4" MDF. I put the crossover inside the door panel. Looks 100% stock.
I have the Shaker 500, so, I just replaced the 5x7 with the 6 inch mid and put the tweeter towards the bottom of the a-pillar firing off the glass. I mounted the crossovers next to my amp behind the back seat, and I used the factory wiring for the door speakers so I wouldn't have to drill out the harness. For the tweeters, I just ran some new wire up to the a-pillars. I removed the rear speakers and I have 2 alpine type-S subs in the trunk. Everything is running off a Kicker 800.4 putting out a little over 1000 watts total. I did have to make some adapter plates where the 5x7 was but I just some some 1/4" mdf. It was pretty simple. I took some pictures today, so I'll try to post them up in a day or two if I can. Good Luck..
In the front doors I put JL 5x7's and JL 8's, and crossed them over at the amp so highs go to the 5x7 coax and mids go to the 8" drivers. Rear speakers left stock for fill in. Two 10" subs in a ported box suspended in the front of the trunk. Sounds much better and you can't see any change in the doors, except for the little "JL" insignia through the speaker covers if the lighting is just right... this way fit seamlessly and sounds nice, but you have to keep the really low freq's filtered out of the 8" drivers in the front or the doors rattle big time. you can turn it up and the 8's in the doors will seriously thump, but I don't like rattling. Don't forget the dyna mat if you do this - it's a requirement. By the way, the JL's were the only speakers we could find that fit with almost no mods in the doors. Everything else we tried were like mm's too big, small, protruded somewhere, etc. i will get a pic of the box eventually because I think you'll all appreciate not losing your entire trunk to a big, stupid box. Suspended is the way to go - you can still remove the spare, you can put small items UNDER the box, and a whole hockey equipment duffel back still fits behind it, plus you can put long items, like hockey sticks, on either side of the box through the rear seat when you put the seat down. Best compromise of sound and space.
