Default Eclipse Navigation question

Hi everyone,

I finally decided on buying the Eclipse navigation system, but I can't tell the difference between the AVN5435 and the AVN5500.
Does anyone know what the difference is? All I know is that the AVN5500 is the newest version. If there's no real difference, why would anyone pay $350 more?
Anyone have luck installing this yourselves?

Thanks!

I have no idea about the eclipse models, but I would guess possibly graphics, and easier control functions...

as far as i know there really isn't any difference other then the new map that comes with the 5500 and the street map feature which basicly gives you general shapes of the buildings that are around you...otherwise as far as audio features go they are the same...

That's a cool feature. If that's true, maybe I'll spend a little more for it...

Thanks!

The main thing looks like the city view mode where it shows buildings. I've got the older one and it doesn't do that at all.

if you'd like check out www.eclipse-web.com
but be advised that the 05's do not have a VSS wire so a lot of the features do not work....i will check mine on the way home and see if it will pull it up properly without the VSS

i will let you know!

You can tap the output shaft speed sensor at the PCM. You definitely want a speed wire going to the GPS so it can do dead reckoning when the GPS signal isn't available. If you search these forums, there's already a number of posts on how to find the right wire to tap. I didn't find it that hard of a job, but it did take some scraped knuckles to get the wire past the firewall.

i'm not sure about the 5435...but straight from crutchfield's catalog:

the 5495 ($2399.99) has the internal 30 GB hard drive that rips your CDs and stores navi info

the 5500 ($1699.99) does not have a hard drive but it has dual slots...one for CDs and one for DVDs

the 5600 ($1999.99) which is new, does not have a hard drive either, but it has dual DVD slots so you can play a DVD at the same time as using the other DVD for navi

from the pics they show it looks like the 5500 and 5600 show the building shapes while the 5495 does not...again not sure about the 5435 though

ok...the 5500 does have the street map feature but it seems you need the VSS hooked for it to work right.....
i am gonna try and get mine hooked up in the next couple of days so i can tell you how well it works!
