Default stereo problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ok, i tried to hook up my headunit to my 1991 hatch 5.0 today and i cannot get the damn thing to even turn on. i bought it from crutchfield.com and it came with the little prongs to get it out, the mounting bracket, the three different connectors for my car and a bunch of instructions. it tells me not to use the factory amplifier that is located behind the headunit in the dash so they game me a bypas connector but i cant figure it out.. should i just hook up the two longer thinner connectors up to the headunit? should there be a connector for the factory amp? also it said to remove my factory amp cause the factory amp can only handle a headunit with 5 watts rms each channel or lower and my new headunit is 17 watts rms x 4 channels... what should i do? also is there a fuse that could have blown when i hooked it up? if so where is it located. im new at this so use baby terms lol

first rip out the amp. There is probally 2 fuses for your radio one for 12v constant and one for keyed 12v located under the dash on the drivers side near the kick panel. Not sure what harness you have.do you have pics?

If you used the wire harness and matched the colors up. THe radio should still powerup with the gray connector plugged in.

ok.... if i hook the red wires and yellow together it will come one but when u turn the car off it will stay on cause its going straight to the battery... i followed the red wiring into a metal box thing right before the fuse box.... this metal box must be a aftermarket stereo part because the car came with a 6 disc cd changer that my uncle installed when he had the car... it was a clarion cd changer and this metal box says clarion so im guessing its someting for that but i dont know what.... anyone have ay ideas on what it is and why my cd player wnt work unless i hook all the reds with all the yellows?

I don't think I have a factory amp either because the Metra harness is the same one I used in my older Ford Escorts when I was a kid 15 years ago....I'm puzzled....

Get a testlite or a volt meter to see if you have voltage on the red wire. The metal box is for the changer and it should have nothing to do with the radio not working.

Did you hook your amp turn on wire up?It could be the h/u outputs are blown or speakers are blown. You should have a amp in your stang check behind the radio or under the pass seat.

the first time i didnt and it wouldnt have any sound.... the next time i hooked it up with the factory amp and sound plays but the only way to get the radio to work was to take the yellow wire and splice it with the red but since that means it was running straight off the battery the cd player would never shut off even if the car was off... so im thinkin its the red wire... but 1fastzook is that metal box a problem? or should i just let it there? i wouldnt have the first idea about removin it though....
