Default Radar detector question?

Do Radar detectors lose range with age? I don't know why they would but mine is picking up cops a lot later than it use to. I use to be able to pick em out at least a mile or two on the hwy now its seems like its only a third of that. Whats the deal?

Default RE: Radar detector question?

I think the police have started using new techniques to prevent radar detectors from being effective...like turning on their radar late

Or, did you maybe move it up into the tinted part of the window? Tint, if it has a metallic component, can affect detection range. Or lower toward the dash can reduce range as well. I don't remember what test I was reading, but it was some car magazine years ago and they figured out that highest on the window you could go without being behind tint was the best location.
