Default shaker 500 upgrade

I just got a 06 mustang GT - yellow - IUP - with the stock radio in it. Can i replace the stock radio with a shaker 500 system? I do not care if i have rear subs or the extra door speakers - I just want to play mp3 and have 6 cd disks.

Can i just do a swap or is there alot of other crap involved to make this happen? Im sure you guys know the stangs as well as i do the 73-77 pontiacs!!

Thanks guys . Just new to the mustang scene. I have a 73 Pontiac GTO and 1984 Buick Regal - both restored. I luv the new stangs and have it as a summer driver only.

The answer I believe is yes. The head unit of a shaker 1000 or 500 should be plug n play compativel to a stock unit. Obviosly, this will only give you the features of the head unit not the entire system. But you would have the mp3 player. I am looking to sell my shaker 1000. Do you have a 500 already?

The Shaker systems also include two 8" dual coil subs in the doors and two amps to power those subs. The amps for the subs are only 90 watts each at 3.2ohm (1.6 ohms per channel).
The 1000 also includes the sub enclosure for the trunk and more amps for those. I think upping from a base system will be time consuming and could be quite costly.

Consider aftermarket. You could get an awesome 2din video HU, an amp and some subs.

HEY Daddy D, is that 90 WATTS RMS on the AMP? Or is that peak power??? I am replacing the subs with Midbass speakers and I am considering keeping the factory amps to run the midbass speakers..... Any thoughts???

I actually don't know. But, that is what a dealer read from some booklet he had. I am betting it is peak since the factory subs distort at higher volumes.

Check with Kicker. They have some Mid-Bass drivers that are shallow enough to fit without any mod's

I haven't seen the back of the standard radio to see what type of connections there are - but here's a couple of pictures of the Shaker 500 if it helps any. The smaller connector on the left of the unit is for the shaker subs so you'll probably only use the larger connector on the right. Good luck.

Hey You Guys,

I just wanted to say thanks for all of your help. I put in some 8 in Midbass Kickers in the door and they are powered by the factory amps. They shop that did it for me said it was actually fairly easy to hook it all up and they sound GREAT. I put a 12in Sub in the trunk and have 4way Pioneers running in the doors and back seat and I have a Premier 980 HU and it sounds GREAT. The doors don't thump and rattle any more but they have a GREAT sound...

THANKS AGAIN
