Better speakers?
Are there any better speakers for the mach460/1000 systems? The ones in there sound really good and all, but if I can get better (without having to redo the entire system including head unit), I'm going to get them.
I'd probably do a head-unit before speakers. But speakers will depend on which ones you want to replace. As far as brands, your normal choices (component or not) will be MB Quart, Focal, Dynaudio, or you can go for component sets from places like Ascendant Audio, RE Audio, etc. But depending on which speakers you want to replace, it might be straightforward, it might not be. I am not too familiar with these setups, though. Some of your speakers will probably be component speakers and the system will probably have its own crossovers already, which might not be optimal for new speakers even if you get component speakers.
I was suprised that the factory speakers sounded much better after I installed my alpine. IF you do it right they will sound good enought that you probably would not want to replace them till they blow.
Alpine makes budget speakers, but it was probably more that the factory system is optimized for its own speakers. Just like you can't take out a driver (individual speaker) from a speaker system for your house and replace it with any speaker of the size, even if it's high quality.
Yea the biggest difference maker is definitely the new head unit. The factory deck is only sending out so clean of a signal, so if you get a better deck that will send out a clear-er, crisper signal you will definitely hear a difference in sound quality. Just replacing the speakers really isn't going to do much, if anything. Do the deck and then if you deem necissary do the speakers.
one problem tho......the headunit actually powered the tweeters in the mach460 system
and bc it has its own crossover, to remove it and get an aftermarket put it....

Are the crossovers in the head unit, then? If so, then you'll need to get some crossovers (speaker level, not line level, unless you want to run amps for it all) or replace the speakers. If not, then you can just keep the stock crossovers.
Ive rewired two mustangs now. Both with MACH 460. Its really not that bad if you know what you are doing. IMO worth the time and effort of doing it. The second time around I used crossovers on the factory tweeters, and pioneer 6x9's someone put in the car. Its really quite a simple undertaking, you can pull both power wires from the main harness of the Mach headunit, and theres even a wire that will connect to an aftermarket dimmer wire. So when your headlights come on the headunit will auto dim so its not insanley bright and distracting.
