Default Where to place the Amp

So far..............
2001 convertible w/mach 460 sound system, factory cd player died.
I bought a new deck, Profile AP740 amp, plus the necessary adapters and kits.
Put the amp and the deck on a table and spent the last couple of days wiring things up and making sure sound came out. It works- yaaa!

I have the in-dash adapter kit so putting the aftermarket deck in the odd-sized dash hole won't be a problem.
The problem is what to do with the amp. I had originally hoped I could mount it inside the dash under the deck but its far too big. Won't fit under the seat either so its got to be in the trunk.

Thus my question, where do people put the amp so that they can still use their trunk? I've seen some pics of people with the giant speakers and amps mounted in the middle of the trunk and the trunk is essentially useless for normal trunk "purposes".

I was thinking of mounting it on the inside roof of the trunk in front of the lid, there is a molded wall there, sounds like its hard plastic covered by carpet. Are there any known problems with mounting it there? Is there a better place? I was thinking also of mounting it on one side and then making a little wall to protect it from groceries and the like.
